Fire roll call
Fire roll call for construction sites
When the alarm goes, a supervisor starts a roll call from their phone. TallyGate on every phone on the list turns into a flashing red fire alert, and it stays red until that person taps "I'm at the assembly point" or a fire marshal ticks them off.
The marshals' screen counts down who is still not accounted for, live, on as many phones as you need. Nobody is dropped from the list just because the paperwork is untidy.
Who is on the list
The list is worked out from the clock records at the moment of the alarm, not from an on-screen headcount. Anyone whose latest clock record is a clock-in is on it. That includes:
- people who clocked in on an earlier day and may have forgotten to clock out (they are flagged so the marshal knows)
- people whose accounts have since been made inactive
- for a roll call at one site, anyone clocked in with no site recorded
Added automatically while it runs
- clock-ins that arrive late from phones that had no signal, because offline clocks keep their original time
- anyone who clocks in after the alarm
Nobody is removed automatically
- clocking out during the roll call doesn't take anyone off the list
- marking someone "Not on site" needs a reason
- every mark is recorded with who made it and when
A separate "Check these" list shows people who clocked out in the hour before the alarm, and anyone clocked out automatically by the overnight job in the last 24 hours, so marshals can make sure they really have left.
Built for a real muster
- several assembly points and several marshals at the same time
- visitors can be added by name if you want them on the list
- the time of the hand-over to the fire service and the time everyone was accounted for are both recorded
- when someone taps "I'm at the assembly point", their location is recorded with it
Drills and records
Each site shows when a fire drill is due, every 183 days, in line with the six-monthly drills in the Joint Code of Practice (section 8.6). Every roll call and drill is saved as a printable report for your fire log, and the report checks the clock records again when it is opened.
On operatives' own phones
There is no kiosk or tablet at the gate. The fire alert arrives as a phone alert that operatives switch on when they set up the app. On iPhone this needs iOS 16.4 or later with TallyGate added to the Home Screen. The alarm appears in each person's chosen language: English, Polish, Romanian or Albanian.
Why it works this way
Site emergency procedures have to account for everyone on site. The rules above were written with these in mind:
- CDM 2015, regulation 30 (emergency procedures)
- Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, article 15
- CITB guidance and the Joint Code of Practice on fire prevention on construction sites (10th edition)
TallyGate supports your fire plan. It doesn't replace your fire risk assessment, alarms or trained marshals.
Which plan includes it
The fire roll call is in both the Site and Pro plans. Read the FAQ or see how it fits with daily checks and card records.
